The Idea
Inspired by Hamburg’s history as a harbour city, CROSSING CURRENTS – HAMBURG ART WEEK connects diverse artistic and cultural forces. This new citywide platform brings together the spaces, practices and communities that activate the city through art.
From 3–6 September, around 100 museums, galleries, experimental independent spaces and initiatives, alongside private collections and the Landesverband Hamburger Galerien, come together across Hamburg for the Founding Edition of CROSSING CURRENTS – Hamburg Art Week.
Spanning the city over four days, the programme reveals the extraordinary concentration and diversity of Hamburg’s contemporary art scene, channelling artistic spaces into an interconnected experience.
Six curated Art Routes, called CURRENTS, flow through the city, each with its own character, while PULSE, CURRENT AFFAIRS and UNDERCURRENTS extend the programme through performance, discourse and nightlife.
The Founding Edition marks the beginning of a new annual platform for contemporary art in Hamburg — one that amplifies visibility, encourages crossovers and opens new channels between the city’s cultural communities.
