Hamburg has a vibrant, multifaceted and internationally connected contemporary art scene. The FOUNDING EDITION of CROSSING CURRENTS unites these energies for the first time, creating a platform that amplifies their visibility and ignites new channels of exchange.
Currents
Six colour-coded Art Routes, called CURRENTS, trace pathways through Hamburg, each with its own character. Spanning the city over four days, they reveal the breadth of Hamburg’s visual art scene through an interconnected network.

Around 100 institutions, galleries, independent art spaces and private collections open their exhibitions during Hamburg Art Week and offer a programme as rich and diverse as Hamburg’s artistic scene itself.

Our UNDERCURRENTS night programme invites you to extend the evening at Golden Pudel Club from 8 pm, hosted by DJ and Curator Phuong-Dan together with local DJ yung_womb. From 10 pm, SUBMASSIVE w/ Unfug Abla, Roof, Turbolenze and Lang Jan take over.
PULSE PERFORMANCE: TO BUILD TO BURY TO REMEMBER
In TO BUILD TO BURY TO REMEMBER, artist Sarah Ama Duah brings sculpture and the body together in a performative installation that reconsiders the politics of remembrance. The performance is a Kampnagel production in cooperation with Crossing Currents – Hamburg Art Week and Hamburger Kunsthalle.
CURRENT AFFAIRS – INTERNATIONAL PANEL TALK: WHY ANOTHER ART WEEK?
Hosted by German-Lebanese gallerist and art historian Andrée Sfeir-Semler, and moderated by author and journalist Pablo Larios, this international discussion explores how cultural platforms can contribute to a city’s identity and development. The panel invites international guests to consider questions of visibility, cultural positioning and how an Art Week can create lasting relevance beyond the temporary spectacle.
