Ernst Barlach Haus

Set within the approximately 240-year-old Jenisch Park, the Ernst Barlach Haus is dedicated to the German sculptor, draughtsman and writer Ernst Barlach (1870–1938). Alongside works by its namesake artist, the museum presents changing exhibitions of modern and contemporary art.

Opened in 1962, it was the first privately founded art museum in northern Germany. Hermann F. Reemtsma, a friend and patron of Ernst Barlach, had previously transferred his extensive collection of the artist’s works to a foundation and commissioned architect Werner Kallmorgen to design a museum to house it.
