Following Hamburg’s renowned Kunstmeile, the YELLOW CURRENT brings together internationally recognised museums alongside an exceptional gallery programme before leading visitors to Oberhafen, the city’s thriving creative quarter housed within a former freight railway yard.

As part of Hamburg Art Week, visitors are invited to explore the city through a series of curated Routes, called CURRENTS, each offering a distinct perspective on the programme and guiding audiences across exhibitions, talks, and performances. Exploring another side of St. Pauli, the GREEN CURRENT connects long-standing independent art spaces such as hinterconti and 8. Salon before concluding at the legendary Golden Pudel Club, one of Hamburg’s most iconic cultural venues.
History and contemporary artistic practice intersect along the BLUE CURRENT, linking transformed historic sites with the celebrated Admiralitätstraße gallery district, where galleries, experimental exhibition spaces and artists’ studios continue to shape the surrounding urban tides.
Classical Modernism meets contemporary experimentation along the PURPLE CURRENT, connecting the historic Gängeviertel with Neustadt, where leading galleries exist alongside artist-run initiatives, alternative project spaces and experimental cultural venues.
Stretching east of the Alster, the ORANGE CURRENT moves from emerging artistic talent to internationally established voices. Beginning at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts (HFBK), it traces a path through a diverse range of exhibition formats, passing Timm Ulrichs’ Wolfgang Borchert Memorial in Alster Park.
RED CURRENT takes the long way west of the Alster, connecting Dieter Roth’s former artist’s residence, a sculpture garden and the Museum am Rothenbaum with galleries and independent art spaces along the way. A route of unexpected discoveries and a different view of Hamburg’s art scene.
Partner Routes
The Crossing Currents programme is joined by Walk&Talk, the established format by Andrea Möller, which this year takes place in cooperation with Hamburg Art Week. Seven guided tours invite visitors to explore four galleries at a time and meet the gallerists behind them. Taking place on Friday and Saturday, the tours are led by professional guides and art experts.
Since 2013, add art has brought contemporary art into corporate spaces, presenting works from company collections alongside selected works by emerging artists. For Hamburg Art Week, three companies — Buss Group, Lohmann konzept and sitegeist — will open their doors exclusively, offering access to unusual and normally inaccessible art spaces.
